Salvia officinalis L.
Sage has been used as a healing herb throughout history and across cultures: Ancient Egyptians used it to treat plague; Ancient Romans considered it holy and had to use a special knife to cut it; Charlemagne revered sage's medicinal propperties and required all state farms to grow it.

Sage has been used as a powerful medicine and powerful magic. In spellwork, burning sage can be used for cleansing or blessing. It can aslo be used for prosperity, luck and wisdom. Those who work with sage often add it to food, make teas, add it to baths, or burn it.

White sage (Salvia officinalis) is a cousin to common sage, and it is this strain that is used in holy smudging ceremonies in indiginous communites. White sage is also often overharvested in ways that are damaging to the environment. In order to offer a source of sage that is garunteed to be grown in safe conditions and in ways that do not steal from or harm indiginous communities, we do not sell white sage.

The common sage that we sell at Maude's was harvested from our medicinal garden and dried by our green witch. Our garden does not use chemicals of any kind. We feel very confident eating and drinking food made with herbs pulled right from our garden; however legally, we must tell you it has not been approved by any sort of government entity for human consumption.

Check with your doctor before using herbal products! Sage is not advised in high doses for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding except under the supervision of a qualified healthcare practicioner.
