Natalie

My name is Natalie Kovacs and my art business is under the name Shapelessflame. I proudly consider myself a witch. As I’ve matured, so has my magical practice. Not only has witchcraft helped me tap into deeper parts of my creativity, but it’s also shed a light on my role in white supremacy and the suffering of others. As witches and outsiders, I feel like it is our responsibility to speak up about inequities and be accountable and flexible when we fall short. Every day I try to reflect and learn the best way to be better to myself, the folks close to me, and the collective. It’s not always easy, but the discomfort is where the real change happens.

About

Shapeless Flame

Shapelessflame is plucked from a work by John Donne, a 17th-century metaphysical poet. I feel this name perfectly encapsulates my relationship with art and life. Though life is fluid, ever-evolving, and oftentimes difficult, creativity remains a bright beacon for me.
I use art as a means to transmute my trauma and the trauma I’ve inflicted upon others. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s irreverent, sometimes it’s poignant. I want others to feel less alone. My ultimate goal is to be able to give back through expression.
I primarily work as an illustrator, but I also love to paint. I inexplicably love pastels and monsters.
